Q&A With Armand Assante

Armand Assante talks to Glam about his new movie The Line, also starring Andy Garcia and Ray Liotta, being featured in the Maya Entertainment Film Series …

Tell me a little bit about how you became involved with the project?

When I read the script, I thought it was a very unusual portrait of men who are deep under cover – trying to protect our borders against terrorism. It’s not romanticized. It’s a real portrait of the vulnerability of these men and the line that they walk.

What was it like working with the other talent, like Ray Liotta and Andy Garcia, in this film?
It’s just a seminal cast – Ray Liotta, Andy Garcia, Eva Morales. It’s a stellar company to be a part of. When you’re part of a company like that, there’s a care ratio that’s probably higher than normal. A lot of great work went into this.

It’s an intense movie. How do you get in that frame of mind?
The issues themselves are intense and so is the environment. There’s a sense of obligation to be as true to this brutal world as possible.

You’ve done a lot throughout your career – acting, directing, producing. What’s in store for you? What’s next?
At this time in my life, I want to produce. I certainly have acted enough. I could offer young people opportunity. The industry is moving very rapidly and underfunded and I’d like to be in a position where I can help young people recognize their ambition.

How are you spending your summer?
I went back to Croatia. I went there to read poetry so that was a bit of break for me. I haven’t had a break in five years. Other than that, I’m working.
